A brand new theatre production exploring the humour and heartbreak of death is set for its world premiere at Meridian Arts Centre in May, and Now Toronto is giving away two pairs of tickets to a few lucky winners!
Written by Jordi Mand, and directed by renowned theatre veteran Philip Akin, In Seven Days follows Sam Adleman, a man plagued by chronic pain who announces to his family over Shabbat dinner that he has chosen to end his own life through medically assisted suicide, in seven days.
His 30-year-old daughter Rachel is devastated and in the week leading up to his death commits herself to changing his mind.
What ensues is a heartfelt and comedic exploration of familial love, the glaring reality of dying and the liberating power of radical acceptance.
The show stars Mairi Babb, Ron Lea, Brendan McMurtry-Howlett, Shaina Silver-Baird and Ralph Small, and has been described by Akin as “a play of fine balance. A balance between people, between families, between the seriousness of life and the laughter of that same life.”
“As we explored this piece, I was continually amazed by its depth, its heart and how it enfolds us into the lives of these very human people who are all struggling and growing until the end.” he concluded.
Described by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company as a “a comedy about dying,” and hailed by theatre critic Lynn Slotkin as a “cause for celebration,” In Seven Days is simply a must see.
In Seven Days is playing from May 4 to 16 at the at the Meridian Arts Centre, 5040 Yonge Street.
