Toronto might be Canada’s largest city, but it’s far from its most entertaining, according to a new study.

Online gaming site CasinoDays conducted a nationwide survey to determine which Canadian city has the most to offer when it comes to activities to do, from attending a sports game, to live music, catching a movie, shopping options and casinos.

The study focuses on the country’s most populous cities and found that Vancouver was the most entertaining, boasting more cinemas, concert and sports venues per 100,000 people than any other city surveyed.

Vancouver had 9.48 cinemas, 2.37 concert venues and 3.7 sports venues per 100,000 people, while Hamilton had 3.11 cinemas, 2.07 concert venues and 3.11 sports venues and Winnipeg had 1.47 cinemas, 0.93 concert venues and 5.07 sports venues.

According to the study, Vancouver’s modest population of over 675,200 means there’s more to go around for everyone in the “fun” department.

Each city was given an overall ranking out of 100 based on the amount of entertainment options available.

Toronto took the sixth spot followed by Ottawa, Quebec City, Montreal and Calgary.

Vancouver came out on top with a score of 91, and dominated four of the five categories, only losing out to Winnipeg’s sporting venues.

Vancouver is also a prime shopping location as it has triple the amount of malls per 100,000 than any other city in Canada, the survey says.

Edmonton came second with a score of 41. According to the study, Edmonton was “well rounded across all five metrics,” which ensured it second place.

The city scored well on the shopping mall and casino categories with 0.82 and 1.32 per 100,000 people respectively, but scored comparatively worse on the sports metric with 2.34 venues per 100,000.

Toronto’s poor performance is due largely to its population size which the study says causes an “exceptionally high demand for the activities.” It also came in last  for sporting venues, with just 1.64 per 100,000 people.

Calgary was the least entertaining city in Canada, scoring 14 out of a possible 100. It ranked poorly in the concert venues column, and came fourth in the casino standings.

CasinoDays analyzed statistics per 100,000 residents in August to develop a ranking and scoring system based on each location’s range of sports stadiums, cinemas, casinos, concert venues and shopping malls where the highest possible score was 100.
