Hit television series The Bear is making headlines after winning three Golden Globes for its second season and for those who don’t know, Canadian star Matty Matheson is among the cast and owns a number of popular restaurants in Toronto.

Though many might know him for his famed role as Neil Fak, a restaurant mechanic in The Bear, Matheson actually has more up his sleeve. In addition to being an actor, he’s a chef, restaurateur and internet personality.

Some of the highlights of his career include being the Executive Chef of Parts & Labour in 2010, creating the takeout restaurant Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club in December 2020, opening Prime Seafood Palace in June 2020 and finally, appearing on numerous programs such as Munchies, It’s Suppertime! and Dead Set on Life. His YouTube channel alone also has over 1.3 million subscribers to date.

Currently, the businessman owns several restaurants in Toronto and Northern Ontario that offer different cuisines from fast-food to fine dining. Here is a list of the variety of restaurants owned by Matty Matheson where you can grab a yummy bite to eat:

Prime Seafood Palace – 944 Queen St. W.

A steakhouse serving farm-grown beef, seafood, and vegetables. The Michelin Guide recommends the Sicilian crudo and ricotta dumplings as appetizers before trying the bone-in dry-aged strip loin.

Maker’s Pizza – Several locations across Toronto

Maker’s Pizza is known for its fresh tasting tomato sauce, New York style dough and its wonderfully overloading toppings, such as the Dr. Pepperoni, So Mushroom and Napoli Dynamite, among others. The chain has five locations in the GTA at 59 Cameron St, 995 Bloor St. W, 1537 Avenue Rd, 388 Carlaw Ave #105A and 1674 Bayview Ave.

Matty’s Patty’s – 923a Queen St. W.

Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club is considered one of the best spots in the city for smash burgers. It offers made-to-order beef burgers, like the signature Matty Matheson, along with plant-based options and delicious sides.

Fonda Balam – 802 Dundas St. W.

Previously known as Birria Balam, Fonda Balam specializes in authentic Mexican food that features home-cooked staples and street food classics, such as tacos, quesadillas and consomme.

Cà Phê Rang – 147 Spadina Ave., Unit 109

Created by Matheson and Rang Nguyen, Cà Phê Rang is described as an ode to Vietnamese food and serves traditional favourites, such as pho and bánh mì, which Matheson calls the greatest sandwich of all time.

Rizzo’s House of Parm – 2 Ridgeway Rd, Fort Erie

Rizzo’s House Of Parm is an Italian restaurant located in Matheson’s hometown, Fort Erie, serving homemade family style Italian food. Popular dishes include chicken parm, Matty’s Tagliatelle Bolognese, Spaghetti Pomodoro and many more.
