Starting in 2013, Friday night jazz at La Rev has been one of the longest running jazz residencies in Toronto. Going through many transformations starting with the band Les Petits Nouveaux, then Lions d’Or, and now the Tak Arikushi Trio; the residency has guest featured many of Toronto’s long established and up-and-coming talents from its vibrant jazz scene.
Past guest performers include: Donovan Locke, Kalya Ramu, Laura Anglade, Meagan Luchko, Jacbo Gorzhaltsan, Chris Bezant, Roberto Rosenman, Jared Higgins, Taylor Maslin, Bruce MacKinnon, and many more.
Now in its 11th year running, the tradition continues to draw audiences from far and wide for a night of exciting improvisation based on the hot swing rhythms and the French Romani musical tradition known as Jazz Manouche. The fusion of American and European jazz creates fertile ground for new musical explorations. The music is completely improvised and you never know what kind of exciting twists and turns it can take!
